Y11: Top Designs Excursion Inspires Future Designers

Our Year 11 Visual Communication Design students attended the Top Designs Forum and Exhibition at the Melbourne Museum as part of their Units 3 & 4 studies. Students explored outstanding VCE folios and design works that demonstrated the research, experimentation and development involved in creating successful design solutions.

Throughout the day, students gained valuable insight into folio presentation, annotation techniques, design thinking processes and the application of visual language. They observed how students developed their design ideation, refined their ideation drawings and presented their final design outcomes. Students also explored the use of prototypes, mock-ups and developmental experimentation used throughout the design process to test and refine ideas before producing final presentations.

The excursion provided students with valuable inspiration and practical insight that they can now apply to the development of their own design problems, ideation processes and implementation of final design solutions. This experience strongly supports students in the development of their Unit 3 Outcome 3 SAT, as well as their progression into the Unit 4 SAT Outcomes 1 and 2, by strengthening their understanding of professional design practices, folio development and the refinement of design ideas into resolved final outcomes.
