Three books to grab you

With holidays comes a well-earned break from classes and deadlines. Whether you spend some of that time reading or not, Term Four will be a good chance to pick up something new, especially if it has been a while since a book really grabbed you.  When you return, The Laurence Library has plenty of recent additions worth checking out, including a few titles that might just surprise you.

If a mystery sounds like your kind of read, try Carla Salmon’s We Saw What You Started. Set against the backdrop of an Australian coastal town, it follows new arrival Otto as a series of fires puts him firmly under suspicion. With surfing, rivalry, first crushes and a mystery to unravel, there is plenty to keep the pages turning.

For something a little more adventurous, Sarah Armstrong’s Run throws twelve-year-old Cas into the Australian bush after he runs from a difficult family situation. Getting lost is only the beginning, particularly when the mysterious family he encounters appears to be hiding something of their own.

We have also added Pip Harry’s Drift, a verse novel about friendship, social media, starting over and an unexpected swarm of 20,000 bees. Recently named the winner of the 2026 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Young Adult Literature, it might be one to try if you have never picked up a verse novel before.

When Term Four rolls around, drop into The Laurence Library, have a browse and see what else has arrived on the shelves. Your next read might already be waiting for you!
