What's Cooking?
Inside Food Tech
Our Year 10 students have finished Term Three by taking on what might just be our new favourite assessment task – Recreating Iconic Australian Food.
For their latest assessment, students were challenged to select an iconic Australian food and completely reimagine it into a new dish. Students explored some much-loved Australian classics, including lamingtons, pavlova, chiko rolls, Vegemite and the classic chicken parmi, before considering how they could retain the recognisable flavours and features of the original dish while transforming it into something new.
The results were creative. Across the kitchens we saw lamington-inspired cupcakes, Vegemite and cheese scrolls, mini pavlovas topped with milo-flavoured cream and several creative twists on the humble chicken parmi.
The task gave students the opportunity to experiment with flavours, presentation and cooking techniques while putting their own spin on some familiar Australian favourites.
There were plenty of successes, a few interesting experiments and lots of taste-testing along the way!

From everyone in the Food Technologies kitchen, have a safe, relaxing and delicious Term Three break.
