SENIOR VOLLEYBALL

State Finals

On Friday 21 May, the Senior Girls and Boys Volleyball teams competed in the final round of the Interschool Sport tournament, the State Finals. The girls played two pool games, best of five sets and the boys played three pool games, best of three sets. Each set was played to 20 points.

The girls’ first game was against the very strong, Maribyrnong Sports Academy. Unfortunately for the girls, they went down three sets to nil. It was a valiant effort with the girls fighting it out in the second set, to just fall short, 28-26. In their second game, the girls played against Bendigo Senior Secondary College. The girls were back to their best and won this game convincingly, three sets to nil. They came second in their pool and made it into the semi-final against Hume Central Secondary College. In a tense contest, the girls got over the line in a close five set game, making it through to the State Final! Again they would take on Maribyrnong Sports Academy. The girls fought to the end, but were again unable to overcome Maribyrnong. The girls performed to an amazing level on the day!

The boys’ first game was against Keilor Downs Secondary College. In a tight fought contest, the boys were able to prevail, two sets to nil. In their second game, the boys took on Bendigo Senior Secondary College. In a dominant performance, the boys gained another victory, two sets to nil. Their final pool game came against Nagle College. With another comprehensive victory, the boys won through to the Semi Final. In their best game of the day, the boys stepped up when challenged by Melbourne High School. In a close encounter, the boys’ belief and fight was able to get them over the line and into the State Final! In a tough game, the boys fell short of Eltham High School. With great effort, the boys gave it their all and were runners up on the day.

Congratulations to the Senior Girls and Boys Volleyball teams on both achieving State Runners-Up for 2015!
