EXCITING ENGLISH

Edward Scissorhands

As part of the Year 7 English course, students view, analyse and write about the film, Edward Scissorhands. In May, students travelled in to the city by tram to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, (ACMI) at Federation Square, to watch the film and listen to a presentation about the movie by Dr Susan Bye,  Education Programmer at ACMI. Students learnt a lot about the director of the film and the ideas represented in the film. It was interesting to hear about the film techniques used to create particular effects. Some students were also able to view some of Melbourne’s famous street Art and then had lunch in the city before returning to school.

Donnie Darko

Year 11 English students also participated in an excursion to ACMI in June, to begin their study of the film text, Donnie Darko. Students viewed the film in the ACMI  Theatre, then listened to a knowledgeable and animated presentation by Media lecturer Diana Sanders. Students were greatly enthused by the idea of tangent worlds and relished the opportunity to share their interpretations. They enjoyed lunch in the city before returning to school.
