FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Students Make the Most of their Opportunities

There has been much activity during the term and many examples of students performing at their best and making the most of their opportunities.

In the realm of Performing Arts we were witness to outstanding performances by VCE Theatre Studies students as they provided the audience with plenty of laughter with their renditions of segments from Black Adder, Fawlty Towers and Are you Being Served?.

On another occasion, some of our most talented performers in Year 7, 8 and 9 presented two entertaining One Act Plays. Alone at Last and Snapshots

Music students have been active this term with the Kew Guitar Ensemble performance at the 'Soundtrack' concert. There were also performances at assemblies, an information evening, our music camp, the trivia evening, the Chaplaincy dinner, the Royal Children’s Hospital Wellbeing festival, Yarra trams 100 years celebration and the Anzac memorial.

In sport there were one hundred and six students who participated in the one day Victorian Volleyball Schools’ Cup tournament. Based on overall results, Kew High School finished second which is remarkable considering the sports’ academy schools are among our competitors.

Our medal tally was as follows:

- 2 x Gold

- 2 x Silver

- 4 x Bronze

Our senior girls’ and boys’ volleyball teams won their way through Regional and Conference divisions to get into the State Finals. Both teams played extremely well and finished second in the state.

We have an amazing number of students participating in volleyball. They are coached by staff, other students or past students. They are keen and in the gym very early in the morning and ready to go. Such programs only run because people are prepared to give of their time. Thanks to all involved.

Year 9 students have been involved in Q9 this term with research activities in the city, excursions and a camp.  Year 10 have had a taste of the world of work through work experience. The World Challenge team has continued preparation for their trip to Peru later in the year.

We have also selected six Year 9 students to head off to Gnurad Gundidj Campus in term 3.

Programs for enrichment have seen students participating in a Da Vinci Challenge and debaters have pitted themselves against a range of competitors.
