WILSMERE WINS!

Athletics Carnival

The sun was shining for what was set to be an amazing day for the Kew High Athletics Carnival. The Houses got ready to go head to head and leap to new heights. The students from each year level participated in a range of track and field events spread around the course; all with the intention to gain house points for their team.

This year’s graduands had some amusing costumes and hilarious techniques when it came to the events. The younger years showed some promising talent and great participation. Years 7 – 10 wore coloured accessories to support their houses. All events had great numbers, with all students giving it a go and learning and trying sports they hadn’t before. For those who did not run, jump or throw, they still supported their house by cheering on the athletes on the field. The cheer squads were in full force when it came to the running events, with the crowd going wild over who would go through to the next rounds. Lots of comedy came from the Year 12s and their running events, which made the day even more enjoyable.

House spirit was shared by teachers and students throughout the day. It was an Athletics day to never forget and they are getting better and better. The competition between Houses was great, with each house scoring a large amount of points. Barker was in fourth place with 1,066 points, Boroondara in third place with 1, 321 points, Cotham scored 1,331 points  and Wilsmere took the win with 1, 422 points. A great effort from all the Houses!

A huge thank you to VCE VET Sport and Outdoor Recreation students who helped run the event, as well as the teachers who put the time and effort into planning and running the day.
