Preston Butcher Opens Girls Touch
The Preston Butcher Opens girls competition was played across 3 weeks in an after school competition against the local Wagga High schools.
Mater Dei played Kildare Catholic College and Wagga Wagga High School in the round games and won 4-1 and 8-1. This took the girls to the semi finals, where they played Wagga Wagga High School and won 7-2. This progressed them straight into the grandfinal against Kildare. It was an incredibly tough game as the girls were down 3-1 in the early stages of the game. They then made there way back into the game and had a 4-4 draw.
A player drop-off format occurred where only 4 players take the field and they play an extra 2 minutes.
Cleo Buttifant scored the winning try and all the players from Year 7-12 should be congratulated on an incredible grandfinal win 5-4. It was wonderful to have Mr John Preston and Ms Helen Butcher present the trophy to the girls, the trophy was named after John and Helen for all the work they did for Juniors Touch in Wagga.
We farewell Cleo Buttifant, Charlotte Priest and Ruby Browning as this is their last year playing, they have contributed so much and have been part of the team since they were in Year 7.
Thank you to all staff who assisted with both competitions.
