Music

Year 7 have approached their first term of Music enthusiastically and have engaged in Keyboard skills, performing the melodies ‘See You Again’, ‘The Neverending Story’ and ‘Lean on Me’. Students have also learnt to play ukulele chords and have enjoyed singing during whole class ensemble performances.

 

Students in Year 8 have enjoyed performing classic Rock Riffs on keyboard and guitar, individually and as whole class ensembles. Students are now creating a Rock medley composition which they will perform for their Term 1 assessment. Some of the repertoire has included: Smoke on the Water, Peter Gunn, Sunshine of Your Love and Seven Nation Army.

 

Year 9 have been busy preparing songs to play at Open Night as well as an Australian Rock/Pop Assessment. 

 

Year 10 Elective Music students have engaged in how ABBA create musical interest in their songs. Some focus repertoire has included ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Money, Money, Money’ and ‘Dancing Queen’. Students have learnt to appreciate ABBA’s music and enjoyed performing an arrangement of ‘Mamma Mia’ at Open Night.

 

Year 11 are currently arranging a song using the notation program Sibelius. They are also concentrating on using the concepts texture, pitch and duration in a listening assessment. 

 

Year 12 Music students have continued developing their performance repertoire for their upcoming HSC practical examination in Term 3. Charlie Jackson recently performed on lead guitar at the Catholic School showcase, A Time to Shine, with his rendition of ‘Better’ by The Screaming Jets.
