Manufacturing and Engineering
Year 11 students have started the Course well and have completed their first project, the Pad Saw. This project allowed students to refine their skills and knowledge in precision marking out, the care and correct use of a range of hand tools and finishing techniques.
The next task will require students to create a money box using a variety of welding techniques.
This term Year 12 students have been finishing their toolboxes, assembling all components and beginning the painting process. As the toolboxes are quite large and bulky, students may need parental support in collecting the project from the College.
At the start of Term 2 the class will be moving on to our next series of small projects which will continue to develop individual practical skills in welding, assembling and machining of components and parts for a project. Parents/carers and students are reminded that there are no HSC exams for Manufacturing and Engineering.
Business Services
This year Business Services has been offered for the first time at Mater Dei. Students in Year 11 have recently completed their first Assessment Task: Use Business Software Applications and have made an excellent start to the Course. Two office spaces have been created in the classroom and students have developed expertise using Word, Excel and Powerpoint applications. The class is investigating the importance of well-being in the Workplace.
Construction
Year 11 have completed their concrete float and will now start the construction of a hardwood mallet. Students have made good progress through both the theory and practical components of the course.
Students in Year 12 have just finished their first decent-sized concrete pour at the Agriculture plot. Students practised by making concrete pavers with a range of reinforcing techniques and then carrying out destructive testing on them.
Hospitality
Year 11 Hospitality students have been learning about hygiene and Work Health and Safety in the kitchen. Students are enjoying the opportunity to apply what they know in a practical setting.
Year 12 students are completing Methods of Cookery and Prepare Espresso Coffee over the course of the term. They participated in the Open Night, demonstrating and producing tasty treats for families to try. Students are currently completing Work Placement in Wagga businesses, which is part of the Hospitality Course.
At the end of this term Ms Amy Hazelwood concludes as a member of the TAS/VET team. Thank you Amy from the Team for your dedication and commitment to Hospitality.
