St George’s was certainly competitive in the recent North Western Associated Schools (NWAS) carnivals.
The Associated & Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) have 89 schools within their Association and are responsible for running all our after-school sport and carnivals. Schools are geographically placed in their sub-associations to compete in one-day carnivals .
This term we competed in the NWAS Summer Sports Carnivals which saw students from Year 7-10 battle it out over two days against John Septimus Roe, Carmel School, Emmanuel Catholic College, Kingsway, Aranmore and Mercy College. At Warwick Stadium we had girls and boys Basketball and mixed Volleyball, and at Britannia Reserve we had Ultimate Frisbee and Cricket taking place.
IMPORTANT NEWS FLASH: We won our first NWAS Flag with our Year 7 & 8 Cricket Boys winning their Cricket Carnival.
Our Year 9 & 10 Girls Basketball team also placed second overall. Congratulations to both teams on your success. Many thanks to all students and staff involved over the two days and we look forward to hosting the NWAS Winter Carnivals next term on 24 and 25 June. St George’s will compete in Girls and Boys Soccer, Touch Rugby, Badminton, Girls Netball and Mixed Netball.
Dust off your running shoes and get training over the holidays as our Interhouse Cross Country Carnival is taking place in Term Two, Week 2 - 6 May. The venue and 3km run are the same as last year at Poolgarla Parkland, Kings Park (used to be called Hale Oval).
If you do well in the Interhouse Carnival, the top six boys and six girls from each year group will be selected to represent St George's at the ACC Cross Country on 5 June at Alderbury Reserve. All U/13 and U/14 Runners will run 3km and U/15, U/16 and Open will run 4km at ACC.
The PE Department were so impressed with our students this term. They have demonstrated enthusiasm, organisation and compassion for others in their lessons and are commended on their approach to the swimming program.
Along with NWAS and Cross Country, we are looking forward to new and exciting sporting events and opportunities next term:
ACC Boys Championship Soccer Carnival – 22nd May
ACC Girls and Boys Championship Netball Carnival – 23 May
ACC Girls and Boys Championship Hockey Carnivals - 16th and 17th June
Lastly, the PE Department would like to recognise the achievements of Year 8 Fieke Potter who excelled at the National Junior Athletics Championship, breaking a state record and recording her own personal best in the U/14 Girls 1500m to win silver. Congratulations to Fieke and her family! Read more about her performance on the St George's Superstars page.
