Exceptional vibe in Chapel

As our 11-week school term ends, I must commend the Year 7s, who showed great resilience and pulled through with energy, zest, and determination to do well. The vibe in both class and chapel has been exceptional. On the sports fields and other school activities, they demonstrated their pride in being members of this wonderful school.

Hats off also to our hardworking Year 12 Student Leadership Team. Led by Ben and Alison, our amazing School Captains, they rallied their fellow students behind all of our school events this term, including the wonderful Interhouse Swimming Carnival and Gandhi House Colour Run. The energy of the Year 12s, 11s, and 10s has had a beautiful ripple effect all the way down to Year 7s this term. Well done and congratulations to you all!

The Year 12 Student Leaders closed our last Term 1 Chapel Assembly this week by reminding and urging us all to demonstrate good stewardship of school property and observe the sustainable goals of earth-keeping, such as knowing in which bin to place cans, paper, and general waste. I took the opportunity to remind students that stewardship, like charity, begins at home. There will be no earth care without self-care, beginning with simple things like brushing one’s teeth in the morning before talking to others, making one’s bed and tidying one’s bedroom. Perhaps this message might rub off on positive actions in and around the home these holidays!

Another area of responsibility is to look after one’s body by using the school holiday to rest. I explained what students could do during the holidays using the word R.E.S.T. as an acronym: R means Relax!  E means Exercise! S means Study — catch up on schoolwork. T means Travel, not necessarily flying overseas or interstate, but going to the park or beach to enjoy nature, going to the theatre to watch a movie, or going to the mall and having an ice cream with friends.

Happy holidays. Come back rejuvenated!
