A trilogy of science excursions this week saw classes visit the University of WA, Perth Zoo and a popular Perth eating place.
While Year 12 Chemistry students visited the Chemistry Labs at UWA to make "Cobalt complexes", Year 11 ATAR Biology students caught the ferry to Perth Zoo.
Many thanks to Professor Stephen Moggach for his time supervising the practical and giving our Year 12s an engaging tour. Having UWA lab coats and safety glasses was a real treat, too!
Meanwhile, our Year 8s were assessed on a task involving a delicious snack. While it’s easy to make toasties at home, students looked into what is done differently at Toastface to make customers want to buy their product.
We were thrilled to welcome Kathy Paul, Director of Teaching and Learning at AngliSchools, to our SOAR Club recently (pictured above). Our students are eagerly preparing for the Whitlam Institute's 'What Matters' writing competition, where they will express their thoughts via a chosen form on topics that matter to them in 600 words or less. Ms Paul, an experienced educator in English literature, provided personalised feedback, praise and encouragement, along with valuable tips to elevate their writing. She was particularly impressed by the students' mature writing style and their enthusiasm for the creative process. Ms Paul was delighted to meet some of St George's talented writers including Ellie Hardy (Year 10), Jaya Chopra (Year 10) and Cooper Grant (Year 11).
Year 7 HASS students were asked to choose a building in Rome, delve deep into its purpose and construct a replica. The result was a mini empire of cardboard, craft and ceramics. Well done to everyone on their efforts, especially the students with intricate and complex structures. Judges declared the top four as
During a recent Design lesson, Year 9 students visited the Design Exhibition at 152 St Georges Terrace to view a selection of the works by recent graduates from the School of Design and the Built Environment at Curtin University. Works included exemplars of advertising, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, architecture and fashion. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to consider future careers in the Arts without having to travel too far. Another of the many benefits of our place in the CBD.
