Year 7 & 8
Mr Tom Dempers
Earlier this term, merit certificates were awarded to students who demonstrated outstanding effort and positive contributions, displaying school values and multiple teacher commendations across the term. Congratulations to all students who received one.
Our Year 7s have had a fantastic start to secondary school and are to be commended for how well they have adjusted to their new school life here at St George’s. Coming from more than 50 different primary schools, most students began the year knowing hardly anyone, so it has been heartening to see friendships form and confidence grow. From Orientation Day and the Interhouse Swimming Carnival to co-curricular activities, Year 7 Camp and Picnic in the Park, students have embraced every opportunity with great spirit. It has been action-packed and they have adjusted well. Well done everyone!
Year 8 students have also made a strong start, showing maturity and drive throughout the term. Their participation was outstanding in events such as the Interhouse Swimming Carnival, House Week activities, NWAS carnivals, co-curricular clubs, the Sounds of Sunset concert and rehearsals for our school production. Many have also taken their first steps towards independence by attending classes at CQU and improving in areas such as organisation and time management throughout the term.
Thank you to all our Year 7 and 8 families for your ongoing support. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first term as the Head of Year 7 & 8.
Wishing you a safe, happy and restful Easter break.
