From the Principal

Thanksgiving 

As we reach the end of Term 3, I find myself reflecting with immense gratitude on the many experiences, achievements and Moments of Grace that have shaped our community over the past ten weeks.

This term has been filled with opportunities for our students to flourish. We have celebrated outstanding achievements in the Arts, Performing Arts and Sport, witnessed students stepping forward in leadership, and seen young men embrace opportunities to contribute positively to the life of the College. We have also been reminded of the strength of our Mazenod community through events such as the Fathers and Friends Breakfast, where the importance of connection, guidance and partnership between home and school was so clearly evident.

Beyond the achievements themselves, I have been most encouraged by the character shown by our students. Throughout the term, we have reflected on what it means to ‘Come to learn who we are in the eyes of God’, to ensure every individual feels valued and heard, and to have the courage to be positive upstanders when it matters most.

Yesterday, we also announced our 2027 College Prefects. For me, this is always one of the most hope-filled moments of the year. As our Year 12 students prepare to conclude their journey at Mazenod, a new generation of young men steps forward, ready to lead and serve our community. The leadership process revealed much more than those appointed to formal positions. It showcased a remarkable cohort of young men who demonstrated courage, humility, integrity and a genuine commitment to others. The quality of applicants was exceptional and gives us every confidence that the future of Mazenod is in very capable hands. 

We congratulate our newly appointed Prefects and thank every student who had the courage to place himself forward in service of the College. As one group of leaders prepares to leave its legacy, another now begins the responsibility and privilege of shaping the next chapter of our College story.

This week also marks a significant milestone for our Year 12 students as they completed their final official day at Mazenod College. For many, the coming weeks will bring ATAR examinations. Many will also commence apprenticeships, traineeships, employment or further study. While their pathways may differ, we are equally proud of every young man. They leave us not only with knowledge and qualifications but with friendships, values and experiences that have shaped them into the men they are becoming.

Whilst there are formal celebrations still to come next term and much more to say about this outstanding cohort of young men, I wish to thank our Year 12s for their leadership, their spirit and their contribution to our story. They have helped shape the culture of our College and their legacy will endure in the young men who follow. As one generation prepares to leave and another prepares to lead, we are reminded that Mazenod continues to be blessed with young men of faith, courage and integrity.

I wish all our Boarding students safe journeys home and quality time with family and loved ones. And I wish all students, staff and families a restful holiday break and thank you for your continued support throughout the term.
