Wow! What a month it’s been in the S-Hub at LHC!
We’re very excited to report that we started our energy audit this month. Mr Shahzadi’s Year 11 Physics class went around the school with some special equipment to investigate and record information on how we use energy in our lighting, heating, cooling and appliances. By analysing this data, we can look for ways to use less energy, reduce our energy bills and our greenhouse gas emissions. Thank you 11SPHA and everyone else who helped us out!
Meanwhile, we have been also looking at getting creative with waste, starting with the completion of our bottle cap mural that we’ve been working on over the last year. Thanks must go to Mrs Sargeant and everyone who brought in bottle caps, helped to wash and sort them and spent countless hours planning, designing and screwing the hundreds of caps down. We can’t wait to see the final product up on the wall at school.
Speaking of getting creative with waste, the City of Knox is running the Art Beyond Waste exhibition from 4th June to 16th July at Miller’s Homestead in Boronia. Entries are open to anyone who lives, works, or plays in the City of Knox. Check it out, come along to our weekly meetings in S-Hub on Thursdays at Lunchtime to learn a few tips and tricks on getting arty with rubbish and get your entries in!
We so far made trinket and gift boxes entirely from old cardboard and learnt how to decoupage them with pages from books found in the hard rubbish. Also on the to-do agenda are some cool Chihuly-inspired sculptures and upcycled planters. Look out for photos in our next newsletter.
Can’t wait to see you at the S-Hub!
