SIRC – GRIP Leadership Conference

Written by Gracie S. and Imogen M., on behalf of the SIRC.

On 5th March, the College Captains, Vice Captains and Prefects, as well as teachers Mr. Boyce and Mr. Turner, attended the Melbourne Exhibition Convention Centre for a nation-wide convention called the GRIP Leadership Excursion. There were over 300 students from 20 different schools at the event, which was sponsored by Deakin University. The day, running from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., focused on practical strategies for improving leadership within schools and better supporting both peers and students.

The day consisted of a range of different activities and workshops that provided us leaders with valuable insights, ideas and tools to further make a positive impact at Lilydale Heights College. We hope to include these skills into the school to create a better school environment for everyone at LHC.

The Student Voice Team ran a sausage sizzle on Thursday 27/03 to promote Student Voice, where in exchange for a free sausage or hashbrown. students supply feedback on what we can improve in the school. The GRIP Leadership Conference also supplied us with tools to help tackle difficult challenges within the school. We want our school to be a place people look forward to going and feel safe.
