Year 11 Outdoor Ed. Phillip lsland Camp

Clare Rayner

Our Year 11 class of students started to build their connections with the different environments - we went to Phillip Island from March 19th-21st to explore all different parts of the Island.   Students studied the various biomes and the variety/health of flora and fauna, as well as the various ways people use and get to know the Island from both a recreational and spiritual aspect.

The level of learning and determination from all students to try and build their skills was brilliant. I feel that the class members are recognising that VCE Outdoor Ed will be physically and mentally demanding and that the camps are integral to assist in their learning in the classroom.  It was great to see students take responsibility in the field, organising their tents and in particular cooking their food on the Trangia stoves. I was impressed at the majority of meals cooked; there were some nutritious and filling ones. I was also extremely happy with the way students listened and consistently demonstrated respect to all instructors and various members of the public that they came into contact with. The feedback from the instructors (surf instructors and camp staff) said that the students were great - interactive, enthusiastic and wanting to get better and strive for excellence!  The students coped well with some challenging weather conditions - 20mls of rain on the Thursday.

Well done to all, we look forward to our Biking Camp  where we will be exploring the trails at Beechworth.
