Osaka Online Exchange – Tuesday 18th March
In Year 9 Japanese, we did an online exchange with Japanese students from Shintatsumi Junior High School in Osaka, Japan. In class we wrote about ourselves and practiced. In the first session, Shintatsumi and LHC students shared information in English and Japanese about our schools and our cities. We asked each other questions about hobbies, interests, home and school life in Japanese and English. During the online session, some of us had technical issues. However, as a class, we got through it and tried other ways of communicating, e.g. chat features, listening and just trying our very best! I really had fun talking to them about our hobbies and interests and would love to do it again!

The online exchange with Shintatsumi was really fun! I was able to present a welcome speech at the start in Japanese while a student from Shintatsumi did one in English; it was really incredible to see how great their English was. Being able to practice Japanese with people that actually live in Japan was amazing.

Shintatsumi Letter Exchange
As part of the online exchange program, LHC Year 9 Japanese students received letters from the students they met in the online exchange via post! After meeting the Shintastumi students online, LHC students wrote a letter in Japanese which was sent to Japan. It was wonderful to see our students have the opportunity to practice their communication skills in an authentic setting! Harper D., Harry F. and Shae B. did speeches in Japanese in front of the Year 9 Japanese cohort and 65 students at Shintatsumi. It was so exciting to see our students challenge themselves and work through technical issues. It was so rewarding to see our students benefit from this opportunity.
