Year 3- ‘Mechanics & Magnetism’

Our Year 3 students have been experimenting with all things energy and motion. Students have been learning about kinetic and potential energy and how gravity and friction can affect different objects. Students have built their own marble runs to put the ideas to the test! We have also been practising to work in teams and sharing our ideas respectfully. 

Year 4- ‘Thermodynamics!’

Our Year 4 students have been investigating how heat transfers between objects, learning that molecules speed up when warm and slow down when cool. They have used everyday craft materials from the science room like foil, baking paper, and cardboard to build their own insulated contraptions. The students have come up with some really interesting  designs and we will be testing them next week!

Year 5- ‘Optics: Absorbed, Reflected & Refracted’ 

Continuing with our understanding of light, our Year 5 students have been testing how different materials react when a light source hits them. Through hands-on investigations, the children discovered how transparent, translucent, and opaque objects block or let light pass through. Students have also started developing creative short stories to build their very own shadow puppet shows, combining their CSPACE narrative writing with science! 

Year 6- ‘Electronic Product Development and Design’

Year 6 students have been investigating the power behind everyday devices by learning about different types of batteries and how they store chemical energy. Students have also started to ideate for their long term project this year, where they are using Makers Empire to design and print custom casings, which they will then wire up with an internal circuit.
