Students across the senior years have been continuing to develop their artistic skills through a range of exciting projects inspired by different artists, materials and techniques.

Year 3 and 4

Students have been exploring the textile artworks of Anne Kelly, a Canadian artist who creates detailed stitched tapestries inspired by her everyday life, memories and personal stories. Drawing on Anne Kelly's work as inspiration students carefully planned and sketched designs that reflect their own experiences and interests. They have now begun preparing their hessian backgrounds by sewing a border using the stitches they have been learning in class and have practised sewing on fabric patches. Over the coming weeks, students will continue refining their sewing techniques as they transform their ideas into artworks.

Year 5

Students have now finalised their designs for their Pop Art embossing project. Throughout the unit they have been learning new metalworking vocabulary, including chasing and repoussé, while developing an understanding of how these techniques are used to create texture and dimension. Students have been carefully embossing both the front and back of their metal to produce a striking raised 3D effect. With the embossing nearly complete they are excited to begin adding colour to their work. 

Year 6 

Students have been carefully transferring their North Melbourne house designs onto foam printing plates and etching their lines in preparation for the printing stage. This detailed process has required patience, precision and perseverance and it has been wonderful to see the care and diligence students have shown throughout the project. Over the next few weeks students will experiment with printing on a variety of papers before enhancing their prints with carefully selected collaged details to create unique mixed-media artworks.

Students have been busy preparing wooden planks for Tess and the Garden Club to support the north fence revegetation project. Over the coming weeks students will design and create hand painted signs to help protect the space while celebrating the native plants and local wildlife that call the area home. 

Art Club has also continued to be a space that provides opportunities for students to learn from one another. Our Year 5 knitting enthusiasts took on the role of mentors by teaching a small group of students how to finger knit scarves. It has been inspiring to see students share their skills, support one another and build new friendships across cohorts.
