Rolling on in Term 3

It has been another busy and rewarding fortnight in Grade 3! Students have continued to approach their learning with enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to challenge themselves.

Reading 

We have been exploring explanation texts about inventions. Students have examined how these texts answer “how” and “why” questions, while identifying their purpose, intended audience and organisational features. They have also practised summarising important information, developing their fluency and using technical vocabulary to understand how different inventions work.

Writing

Students completed and published an explanation text about an invention they already knew well. Their finished pieces included informative titles, clearly organised paragraphs and labelled diagrams. Students have now begun researching another invention, taking notes and gathering technical vocabulary to help them create a more detailed explanation.

Maths

Learning has moved from place value into addition. Students strengthened their understanding of large whole numbers by reading, writing, partitioning, renaming and rounding numbers, paying particular attention to the role of zero as a placeholder. They are now applying this place-value knowledge to addition problems by estimating answers, partitioning and renaming numbers, and representing their thinking on number lines.

Humanities

We have begun learning about the rich and continuing cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Students explored the meaning of Country and learned that it involves much more than a location—it includes connections to land, culture, language, family, law and ceremony.

We would also like to thank all the families who attended our recent parent-teacher interviews. It was wonderful to meet with you and share how well your children have been progressing, as well as celebrate their achievements and growth. We greatly value the opportunity to work in partnership with families to support each student’s learning and wellbeing.

We are very proud of the thoughtful questions, respectful discussions and excellent effort demonstrated by our Grade 3 students throughout the last few weeks. We look forward to continuing our learning together!
