Performing Arts News

From Dan Dinnen, Patrick Connor and Sam Howard, Performing Arts teachers
Performing Arts is rocking and grooving along! With so many astounding classes, events and activities taking place, it has been hard to keep up but we’ll do our best to give you a snapshot of the NMPS Performing Arts world.
First, huge congratulations go to our representatives at the Parents Battle of the Bands. Rock ’n’ Roll Call and Heavy Dads joined forces to rock out. As their name echoed through the halls of the band room, the following 20 minutes of musical nirvana was potentially the greatest to occur in Leadbeater Hotel history.
They rocked, they rolled and treated the adoring crowd to some Weezer, Franz Ferdinand and, a personal favourite, Silverchair. It felt like the good old days in a packed band room and was an absolute privilege to witness. We may be biased, but in the eyes of the staff who attended as well as the cheers from the crowd you are undoubtedly the most rocking parent band in the North Region!
When looking at what is happening in the classroom, we journey to the Molesworth campus to see the groovy things and fascinating learning experiences. The Year 2s have been exploring ideas about home, connecting with their current literacy focus. They have been learning “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and using frozen images to explore what home means to them.
Year 1C showed off their superb dancing skills in front of the whole cohort at assembly. Their performance was based on pets, also their literacy focus in writing an information text. From the smiles and expressive faces below, we could see they were having a glorious time showing the school how to move!
Finally, our Preps have been creating magical frozen images in groups. They are working collaboratively to make different shapes and objects while developing their listening, teamwork and creativity.
We certainly have some talented students here in North Melbourne!
