Year 5 News

We have had a big few weeks in Year 5 with lots of fun and exciting activities. 

Humanities Showcase

The Humanities showcase was a massive success. We were all so excited to share our hard work and all the knowledge we gained from our unit on natural disasters. It was really great to see the work that the students across the classes came up with and the creative and innovative ideas everyone had for solving different problems faced when a natural disaster strikes. It was also great to see so many families and friends attending to see all the work we put in, we were able to speak to our projects and answer any questions the visitors had. 

Buddies 

All the Year 5 classes have met with their Year 1 buddies now. It has been so fun to meet a younger student and start to get to know them. We have done various getting to know you activities as well as played some games and drawn pictures. We are really looking forward to spending time with our buddies regularly, helping them with their learning, playing games and doing creative activities. 

District Athletics 

Congratulations to all the Year 5 athletes who competed in District Athletics. It was a great day out with lovely weather. It was fun to spend some time with students from other schools and some of us were lucky enough to play soccer with a school that brought a ball in between our events. The NMPS students were respectful, tried their best and did the cohort proud. 

Learning

We finished our mythology unit this week and created informational posters to summarise what we learned. We began our new Humanities unit on business and economics and learned the life cycle of a T-Shirt. In maths we learned new strategies to add and subtract whole numbers and decimals and in writing we learned more about how to write well structured sentences.
