Year 6 News

From Ava McLaughlin, Year 6B teacher and the students of 6C

Let’s look at what 6C has been getting up to inTerm 3!

Hi NMPS Community!

We have just welcomed a new student into our class and look forward to her settling in and becoming part of the team! We have lots of things to look forward to this term - excursions to the State Library, visits from some amazing authors, ski camp, high school practice, and Book Week - we can’t wait to see all of the amazing costumes!

Reading

In Reading, we have been working on preparing our Fairy Tale Court Cases - was Goldilocks in the right? Did the Big Bad Wolf definitely eat Grandma? Can you sound convincing enough to win over a jury of your peers? Tone, expression, body language, persuasive language and strong evidence all play an important role as students prepare their arguments. We are looking forward to seeing everyone confidently present their cases and persuade the jury.

Writing

In writing, recently we have been working on debates. We get into pairs and we are allowed to choose whatever we want from a list of reasons, so that we know we have a strong feeling (for or against) for that topic. Me and my partner’s topic was ‘ School should start later to take in adolescent sleeping patterns.’ We chose who was for or against and started planning our individual reasons. We do our scripts  and double check that it all makes sense. This lets us make sure we understand your partners reasons to find good rebuttals. Then we will perform in front of the class, which will be letting us explain why our reasons are better. It has been fun being able to argue, especially since that is what we are supposed to basically do!

Talent Show

It's jaw dropping every week seeing how many people line up to perform and even more to watch!! Every Friday, second play, almost all the students come to the gym to see this week's show! The Talent Show is where students can sign up to sing, dance or lipsync for 2 minutes. It is such a fun experience, watching everyone's creativity and everyone including each other by cheering and singing along! Many people step out of their comfort zone and every time I am so amazed by this school's talent! Hope to see you there!
