Year 9 Leader of Learning

Welcome back for Term 4!

Our recent City Experience saw our Year 9s travel into and around the CBD on four separate occasions with specific focuses for each visit. Spanning the entire term, our students travelled in with their CONNECT teachers. The first visit was a scavenger hunt throughout the CBD. Students learnt about famous landmarks, navigated the streets and traffic, and took in the sights and delights of the theatre district, Chinatown and Hosier Lane.

Our second visit saw our students experiencing the city from the top of the Eureka Skydeck and also included a walk through the National Gallery of Victoria. For some, this trip to the top pushed them to face their fears and take on a whole new perspective of our fine city. Our third trip took us to the Melbourne Aquarium, where students explored the sea creatures and space. For our final trip into the city, the entire cohort planned and prepared their own schedule and route. Students negotiated travel times and the interests of group members to plan for a trip to engage all involved.

Overall, our students were exemplary. Our Year 9s worked respectfully and responsibly, ensuring that they arrived on time and represented our school well by wearing the correct uniform and following all the instructions set for the day. At times, with buses replacing trains and delays to the travel networks, our students also learnt how to pivot to make their way around the city.

We learnt a lot about the city and also about how to move through and engage with others. One of the aims of this experience is to help prepare our young people for future, independent trips into the city. In the weeks that followed our trips into the city, students worked collaboratively to plan, prepare and present their research, findings and experiences with the Year 9 cohort.

Thank you to all the students, staff and families for their support and involvement in the City Experience. The Year 9 team looks forward to preparing and planning to do it all again in 2027!

Our role as the Year 9 Leadership Team is to guide and support both students and staff throughout the year. While your child’s CONNECT Teacher will remain their first point of contact for day-to-day matters, we are here to assist with any serious or major concerns that may arise.

We thank you for your continued support and involvement and look forward to learning with and from you throughout Term 4.
