Celebrating Culture, Connection & Community

Mrs Caswell

Learner Agency Leader of Learning

For close to two decades, Cranbourne Secondary College has proudly participated in the 4Cs, recognising the vital role culture plays in building belonging, understanding and connection. Over those years, our involvement in 4Cs has been passionately supported and upheld by our MultiPride students.

MultiPride provides students with an opportunity to celebrate who they are, share their heritage with pride, and connect with others across year levels, cultures and experiences. This dedicated group of students seek to open the doors to culture through a celebration of our diverse college community. Through leadership, choreography and performance, students bring to life the rich diversity that makes our college community so special. Our students and staff have been continually inspired by the way culture brings people together. The 4Cs is more than just one performance on a stage for us; it’s all the practices, its students, teaching students, and its connection that transcends age groups and year levels. It stands as a powerful reminder of how deeply culture shapes identity, belonging, and community. For me, who has coordinated the program most recently, it's about holding space for students to express themselves, sometimes once they have already perfected the dance, remembering every step; after school, they still practice together, and you can feel the sense of belonging and identity it holds for them as they move as one.

Some of the most meaningful moments happen behind the scenes. Families work together to create costumes and cultural items, students mentor younger performers, and conversations emerge about home, heritage, and identity. One memorable moment came as I stood in the pouring rain, handing a bundle of feathers to the parent of a young performer. She hugged me and thanked me for providing an opportunity for her family to share their culture with their daughter, explaining the preparation for the performance had opened conversations about memories, history, and traditions that had long gone unspoken.

It is a celebration of harmony, inclusion, and diversity, but also a vehicle for connection, understanding, and pride. As we continue our long partnership with the 4Cs, we look forward to seeing our students light up the stage, share their stories, and remind us all of the strength and beauty found in our diverse community.
