New Maker Space
Mr Spence
Technology Leader of Learning
The new building at Cranbourne Secondary College will feature a dedicated Maker Space, providing exciting new learning opportunities for students in Years 8 and 10 from 2027. The space will be equipped with a laser cutter, soldering stations, 3D printers, and VEX IQ robotics kits to support the introduction of a new Systems Engineering and Robotics subject area.
In 2027, all Year 8 students will participate in the new Systems/Robotics subject, alongside a Year 10 elective class. A Year 9 elective will follow in 2028, allowing students to further develop their skills and knowledge.
Students will explore digital design, problem-solving, programming, and coding for control systems, with a focus on industry applications, modern engineering, and 21st-century automation. They will have opportunities to build and program robots, as well as design and construct their own remote-controlled cars.
The Maker Space will also support learning across other curriculum areas, providing opportunities to extend and enhance student outcomes in subjects such as Visual Communication Design and other Design and Technologies subjects. This flexible, applied learning environment will encourage creativity, innovation and practical problem-solving while helping students develop skills relevant to future study and industry.
