Term 2 has been another exciting and productive term in the Science Domain, with students continuing to develop their scientific knowledge through engaging classroom activities, practical investigations and real-world applications.

Our Year 7 students have been exploring the fascinating world of biology, learning how living things are classified and investigating the relationships between organisms through food chains and food webs. Students have also begun their ecology project, examining the impact of human activities on the environment at Melba College and considering ways we can protect and improve our local ecosystem.

In Year 8, students have immersed themselves in chemistry, completing their Puzzling Powders CAT where they applied their knowledge and practical skills to identify unknown substances through a series of scientific tests. As the term concludes, students are continuing to strengthen their key science skills through a range of hands-on practical investigations, with a focus on careful observation, data collection and scientific reasoning.

Our Year 9 students have had a particularly busy term as they wrapped up their core science studies. To finish the semester, students were fortunate to attend a presentation from the University of Melbourne, where they explored the fascinating properties of light and waves and gained an insight into how these concepts are studied and applied in the real world.

Year 10 students have been working hard to complete their core science studies, consolidating the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the semester in preparation for future pathways.

At the VCE level, students have been busy preparing for and completing assessments and examinations. Their dedication and perseverance throughout this demanding period have been commendable as they continue to build the knowledge and analytical skills required for success in senior science.

Across the Science Domain, it has been wonderful to see students demonstrating curiosity, resilience and a willingness to ask questions and investigate the world around them. We look forward to another term of discovery and hands-on learning as students continue to build their scientific understanding.
