Year 7 News

Ms. Kasey Browne

Term 2 has been a busy and successful term for our Year 7 students as they have continued to settle into secondary school life and embrace the many opportunities available at Melba College.

Students have demonstrated resilience, teamwork and engagement throughout the term, both in the classroom and wider school community. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence, building new friendships and developing positive learning habits.

A highlight of the term was the participation of many Year 7 students in interschool sport, where they represented Melba College with pride, determination and excellent sportsmanship. Regardless of the results, students should be commended for their willingness to challenge themselves and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Students also participated in presentations from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) that focused on mental fitness and wellbeing. These sessions encouraged students to develop practical strategies to support their mental health, build resilience, manage challenges and understand the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Our recent Wellbeing Day was another highlight of the term. The day focused on building resilience, developing positive relationships and recognising the importance of help seeking behaviours. Through a range of interactive activities and discussions, students explored strategies for managing challenges, supporting their peers and identifying trusted adults they can turn to when they need assistance. The day reinforced the importance of connection, belonging and maintaining positive wellbeing.

As we approach the end of Semester 1, students should be proud of the progress they have made. We encourage families to take the time to celebrate achievements and reflect on the growth that has occurred during their first semester of secondary school.

Thank you to our Year 7 students, families and staff for their ongoing support throughout the term. We look forward to an exciting and rewarding Term 3.
