Term 2 has been a busy and rewarding period for our Vocational Major students, with both Year 11 and Year 12 cohorts engaging in a diverse range of excursions, events and hands-on learning experiences that have strengthened their skills, knowledge and future pathways.

As part of their Life Skills studies, all Vocational Major students participated in a Mental Fitness incursion delivered by AIS athletes. Through personal stories and practical strategies, students gained valuable insights into resilience, wellbeing and maintaining a positive mindset. Students also attended the OELLEN Career Expo, where they connected with industry representatives, explored a wide variety of career pathways and further developed their post-school plans.

Year 11

Year 11 students visited the Youth Services Hangout Centre, where they toured the facility, learned about the programs and services available, and explored potential pathways in the community, health and social services sectors. In Numeracy, students applied their budgeting, measurement and problem-solving skills through the construction of ‘gingerbread’ houses, providing a fun and practical learning experience.

A major highlight of the term was the planning and delivery of the school’s VET Expo. Students represented themselves and the College exceptionally well. They ran engaging activities, demonstrated a strong understanding of their VET courses, confidently answered questions, spoke with maturity and showcased the many opportunities available through VET pathways. The effort they put into preparing was evident and they should be incredibly proud of their achievements.

Congratulations also go to our Senior Sport Netball team, who were crowned champions this term. Their success was a wonderful example of teamwork, commitment and school spirit.

Year 12

As part of their ‘Moving Out of Home’ Numeracy unit, Year 12 students visited IKEA and were challenged to budget and furnish each room of a home. This real-world task allowed students to apply practical financial literacy skills in an authentic setting.

Students also attended a presentation from Victoria Police focusing on road and workplace safety, which complemented their Occupational Health and Safety studies in Literacy and Work Related Skills. Throughout the term, Year 12 students demonstrated outstanding leadership through their Occupational Health and Safety Expo they delivered to students in Years 9–11 and the Personal Development Skills activities that they ran for the Year 8 cohort including escape rooms, the human knot and quizzes. 

The term also marked an exciting milestone, with Year 12 students celebrating 100 days remaining of their schooling. This special occasion was recognised with a free dress day and an opportunity to reflect on their achievements so far.

The Vocational Major team congratulates all students on an outstanding Term 2 and looks forward to the opportunities and successes that Term 3 will bring.
