SKELLY WINS 2 SKI MEDALS AT CROSS COUNTRY SKIING CHAMPIONSHIP
Congratulations to Year 11 Skelly Manning, who skied his way to 2 national medals at the Snow Australia Australian Cross-Country Skiing Championships at Falls Creek last weekend.
The 16 year old bottom-ager (competing in the Under 18 category) claimed Silver on Saturday in the 1 km Classic Sprint, with a time of 4:16 in blizzard conditions.
Then on Sunday, he demonstrated his endurance under clear blue skies to secure a Bronze medal in the gruelling 10 km Freestyle Skate Race. His time of 36:27 was almost 5 minutes faster than the 4th place skiier from Italy.
Skelly is a proud member of the Wangaratta Snow Sports Youth Development Group club, where he trains weekly in town. We are all proud of his work ethic and success!
Skelly’s name is now added to our Australian Medallist table, at our website’s new Sport History section - https://whs.vic.edu.au/.../australianchampionindividuals/
We believe he’s our first National Medallist at a Skiing event since 2015, which was the end of a 30-year period where our school was renowned as one of most successful Ski schools in Australia, often winning the Overall School Trophy at the various Australian Interschools Championships.
Congratulations Skelly!
