Sport: Upper Hume Track & Field

THIRTEEN UPPER HUME CHAMPIONS

Results are in from the School Sport Victoria Upper Hume Track & Field Championships in Albury last Thursday, and it’s our best showing this decade.

Congratulations to our thirteen athletes that were Upper Hume Champions, coming in First Place in 20 individual events. We also were Runner-Up in 22 events, and Third Place in 20 events.

20 athletes (having finished Top 2) have qualified in a total of 42 events, for the Hume Region stage on October 9th.

Year 9 Inanay Gilson claimed a prestigious Age Group Champion medal - despite a hip injury forcing her withdrawal from the 1500m.

Year 8 Noah Anderson and Year 12 Phoebe Bosley went agonisingly close - both missing out by just 1 point.

Year 12 Tom Ford and Year 8 Bella Boulton (both Age Group Champions last year) and Clarence Lampa all were Runner-Up. Ford was just 4 points from making it a Hat-Trick, 3 years in a row.

A total of 11 athletes finished Top 3 - compared to 6 last year.

Bella Boulton (100m, 200m, 400m) and Phoebe Bosley (400m, 800m, 1500m) led the charge in Event Wins, both winning 3 each. Three others were Multiple Winners - Noah Anderson (Discus, Javelin), James Chisholm (Discus, Javelin) and Inanay Gilson (800m, High Jump).

Year 10 James Chisholm almost pulled off the schock of the day. He threw his Javelin 47.00m, falling just 91cm short of Xavier Pitt’s all-time record set in 2022. Not bad for a kid with no Little Athletics experience or coaching.

As a school, we finished 3rd in Overall Standings on 717 points, behind Cathedral College (845) and Catholic College Wodonga (830), and just ahead of Galen Catholic College (714). It’s our best result, rank and tally wise, since the Lockdowns, and likely, in the last 10 years. This despite many of our gun athletes and past-Champions unable to compete.

Thanks to all of our fifty-four athletes, all competitors, staff and organisers of this wonderful event.
