The Prefect Report
A message from our Prefects
We’re excited to launch a new feature in our newsletter – The Prefect Report. This section will highlight updates from our elected Prefects, showcasing the initiatives they’re driving and the activities they’re coordinating across the school. It will also include a “Get to Know Our Prefects” spotlight, giving our community the chance to learn more about our student leaders

Prefect Report by Year 12 Student, Alison Jones
We are excited to announce our new Head Prefects for 2026– Pieper Gottschling and Alec Armstrong. Both have already demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and a strong commitment to our school community, and we look forward to seeing them thrive in these important roles.
Meanwhile, our Year 10 Prefect applications have closed with student speeches taking place last Friday. It was a fantastic opportunity for emerging leaders to step forward and make a positive impact on student voice and school life. We now look forward to the results being announced.
A big thank you also goes to everyone who supported our recent Pyjama Day fundraiser. With the help of our generous school community, we raised an amazing $900 for the Unleash the Joy charity. Your contributions will go a long way in supporting the incredible work they do. A huge shoutout to Donna Vickers, the charity's founder, who joined us on the day handing out goodie bags, what a legend.

About Wangaratta High School:
There is always someone here who believes you can succeed and can help you get where you want to be.
Who is someone who inspires you & why?
Mooj - an Afghanistan refugee who appeared on Miriam Margoyles Almost Australian: The Australian Dream episode on ABC. To flee his home country at the age of 11 or 12 (he doesn’t know his birth date) after all his family - mother, father & 5 brothers were killed in the war, hitch a ride to Indonesia, Christmas Island and then Australia without any money or documentation. He now volunteers at St. Vinnies in Melbourne, is on a temporary visa that expires soon but considers himself lucky, happy, safe and proud of the person he has become … and just wants to be independent and contribute to society by helping young people in the same way he was helped. I so admire his resilience and desire to help others, not be defeated by circumstance. To lose everything at such a young age yet can be so positive - what an amazing and inspiring role model for others.
