School Sports Victoria Update

A full term of sport at Woodmans Hill Secondary College is already off to an exciting start, with a large number of students competing here on campus and in School Sports Victoria events already.

In week 1 the Woodmans Hill Secondary College Cross County event was held, with students pushing their endurance in 3 and 5km courses. From that event, 37 students will represent the school in the Eureka Division Cross Country held in Lake Gardens. We wish them all the best.

After a successful meet at the Greater Western Region swimming carnival, Year 11 student Harry Browne was invited to Melbourne Sports Aquatic Center to compete in State level swimming competition. Harry competed in the 50m backstroke event, where he made us all very proud, achieving 2nd place in the race. Congratulations Harry!

We also saw Year 7 & 8 Intermediate and Senior boys try their hand at the Eureka Netball competition. Being a majority of the boys first attempt at the sport, we were extremely proud of the way the students represented themselves on the court, with the day being highlighted by a dominate win from the Year 8 boys over Beaufort Secondary. Congratulations to our netball teams on their efforts during the day.

Finally, we had 56 students move on to the Eureka Division Track and Field competition, after their success at the Woodmans Hill Secondary College Athletics Carnival at the end of Term 1.  The typical Ballarat weather didn’t stop our athletes, as their efforts drove the school to placing 5th overall. There was plenty of individual success on the day, both on the track and in the field. We congratulate those students who represented the school, and wait in anticipation for the invitations to the Regional competition.

Already in 2 weeks we have had a range of successful sporting trips, and we are eager to watch what we can achieve in the upcoming sports for the remainder of Term 2.
