Year 9 Students Rally Behind New Pickleball Unit
This term, our Year 9 students have embraced an exciting addition to the Health and Physical Education program — Pickleball!
A new sport to the school, Pickleball has quickly become a favourite among students, combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis in a fun and fast-paced game.
Throughout the unit, students progressed through a series of skill development sessions, focusing on key techniques such as the forehand, backhand, serving, and volleying. With each session, their confidence and coordination grew, allowing them to apply their skills in competitive and cooperative gameplay.
In addition to honing their physical abilities, students explored the unique rules of Pickleball, including the importance of “the kitchen” — a no-volley zone near the net — and the sport’s distinctive scoring system. This combination of strategy and skill provided an engaging learning experience that challenged students both mentally and physically.
It has been fantastic to see our Year 9 students so enthusiastic about trying something new, working together, and showing great sportsmanship throughout the unit.
