Year 9 / 10 Sub School News

Year 9 and 10 Sub School
What an amazing term it has been for our Year 9 and 10 students! It has been a busy and productive term, with students engaging in their learning, completing assessments and, importantly, beginning to make decisions about their future pathways and subject choices.
Year 9
For our Year 9 students, this term marked the beginning of their subject selection process for 2027. Students had the opportunity to explore the wide range of subjects and pathways available to them and consider how their interests, strengths and future aspirations might influence their choices. It was fantastic to see so many students engaging in conversations, asking questions and showing interest in the subjects on offer, with many students also exploring the possibility of completing a VCE subject early.
To further support our Year 9 with their pathway options, we welcomed Swinburne to the College to speak with students about their courses and pathway options. Students were also given the opportunity to visit Swinburne and explore a range of TAFE courses and industries firsthand. These included Allied Health, Early Childhood Education, Community Services, Plumbing, Carpentry, Bricklaying and Electrical. It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved, asking questions and gaining a greater understanding of the opportunities available to them beyond secondary school.
Year 10
For our Year 10 students, the term began with Course Counselling as students prepared to finalise their subjects and pathways for 2027. This was a significant undertaking for our Senior School team, who worked closely with students and families to ensure each student felt informed and confident about their pathway choices. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet with so many students and families, discuss the range of options available and support students in making decisions about their future.
Throughout the term, our Year 10 students also participated in a number of pathway-focused incursions. Girls in Trades visited the College to showcase the diverse range of opportunities available within the trades and encourage more young women to consider careers in these industries. Our Year 10 boys also participated in a trade-focused session with industry representatives, gaining valuable insights into different careers and pathways into the trades.
We were also fortunate to have our Headstart team visit to speak with students about School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) available in Years 11 and 12. Students gained a greater understanding of how SBATs can provide valuable opportunities to combine their senior secondary studies with practical workplace learning and industry experience. Importantly, students learnt that these opportunities are available to students undertaking both VCE and VCE VM pathways.
Looking Ahead to Term 4
As we look towards Term 4, our Year 9 and 10 students have another important term ahead. Our Year 9 students will experience their first end-of-year examination period, with English and Mathematics exams providing an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and prepare for the expectations of senior secondary schooling. Our Year 10 students will also participate in another examination week for their subjects. We encourage all students to approach these assessments with a positive attitude and give their best effort. These results will provide valuable information about their current knowledge and skills and help identify areas for continued growth as they transition into their 2027 subjects and pathways.
It has been wonderful to see our Year 9 and 10 students engaging so positively with the many curriculum and pathway opportunities available to them this term. We look forward to continuing to support them as they take the next steps towards their future.
