Year 10 News
Mr. Luca Trofimiuk
What a great term it has been for our Year 10 students. They have been working hard and have had lots of exciting excursions and events over this term.
The year 10 Psychology students visited the old Pentridge prison, where they were given tours of the cell blocks that held infamous prisoners. Listening to testimonies about the prisoners on headphones made for an immersive experience into how the prisoners were mistreated and gave insight to the recidivism of prisoners when they were released. It was a valuable insight to criminal minds through the lens of forensic psychology.
Our Year 10 Biology classes also had an impressive excursion this term to Healesville Sanctuary. Each class had an educational talk on native Australian animals, during which they took notes and drew pictures in preparation for their SAC. According to Ms Yang, the entire group did Melba proud with their behaviour and engagement at the zoo.
This year’s musical production, Seussical the Musical, was a smash hit with a huge participation from our year 10 cohort. In an exclusive interview with Sienna (playing Jojo), and Chloe and Teagan (both playing Wickersham brothers), they summarised it as an “Amayzing experience”. Melba students demonstrated incredible commitment to the production with rehearsals twice a week over a ten-week period, all directed by the incredible Mr John Riddell, without whom (to quote the cast) “there would be no show”. The year 10 participants would also like to thank Ms Hinton for her work in choreographing the dances for the show, as well as year 12 students Alex, Laura, Taya and James. Sienna, Chloe and Teagan echo the sentiment of the entire Melba community when they said they “encourage everyone to join next year”.
Looking ahead for Term 4 year 10 students will have their Formal! This is an excellent evening where students can celebrate the achievements and milestones for this year as a cohort, as they make the transition to senior school pathways. The formal will be held at Chirnside Park Country Club from 6:00pm - 10:00pm. Consent and payment ($90) is due by Friday, 30 October, which is payable online.
