Term 3 has certainly been a busy one for the Science Domain, with students taking their learning beyond the classroom through excursions, special events, practical investigations and, of course, Science Week!
Science Week was a highlight of the term, with plenty happening across the school. Our Year 8 students showcased their learning at the Geology Expo, sharing their projects and interactive models with the school community. They also had the opportunity to visit Yarra Ranges Tech School, where they participated in hands-on activities to celebrate Science Week and experience science in a different setting.
Excursions have also played a big part in learning this term. VCE Physics students took their study of motion into a real-world rock-climbing environment, applying their understanding of motion, forces, energy, power, torque and equilibrium outside the classroom. Year 10 Psychology students visited Pentridge Prison, providing a unique setting to connect their psychological studies with real-world contexts.
Our Year 10 and 11 Biology students travelled to Healesville Sanctuary, where they investigated animal adaptations and explored bioethical considerations surrounding the care, conservation and management of wildlife. The excursion provided a fantastic opportunity for students to connect biological concepts with the work being undertaken to protect Australian species.
Back at school, our Year 7 students have begun their introduction to chemistry and reached an important Science milestone; earning their Bunsen burner licences! Students have been learning how to safely and confidently use laboratory equipment as they continue developing the practical skills that will support them throughout their Science studies.
It has been fantastic to see so many opportunities for students to experience science beyond the textbook this term. A huge thank you to our Science staff for the work that goes into making these experiences possible, and to our students for their enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to get involved.
