Technology

Stage 4 Technology students have been putting their engineering skills to the test this term through a range of exciting hands-on challenges! From building the tallest towers to designing sturdy bridges, students have shown fantastic creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Next up, students will begin their textiles rotation, where they will learn new sewing and design skills while creating their very own reusable shopping bags. We can’t wait to see the unique designs and creative ideas students bring to life!

PDHPE

In PDHPE this term, students have embarked on a new topic called "The Best Version of Me," where they are exploring the physical, social and emotional changes experienced during puberty and learning how to navigate this important stage of growth. Alongside this, they have started practical lessons in athletics, developing their skills in shot put, javelin and long jump.

Literacy and Numeracy

How long is an inch? How long is a foot? How long is a yard? How long is a mile?

Humans used these informal units for a long time before metres, centimetres and millimetres. They were used so long because they refer to lengths easily measured by the human body.

1 inch = one knuckle to the next, on your finger.

1 foot = one foot length

1 yard is three feet measured by one big step

1 mile = 1000 steps

... We can measure in so many ways.!

Stage 5

PDHPE

The bigger your support network-- the more people you can rely on when it gets tough and it always gets tough sooner or later. We added Kid’s helpline to our support network and found out you can call or text anytime. Kids helpline 1800 55 1800

Agriculture

This term in Stage 5 Agriculture, students have been learning about the Australian beef cattle industry and the important role beef production plays in agriculture. Students explored the history of beef cattle breeds in Australia and investigated how different breeds have been developed and selected to suit Australia’s varying climates and environments.

Students learnt what the main beef cattle breeds used across Australia and examined the features of popular breeds such as Angus, Hereford and Brahman cattle. They also learnt to distinguish between Bos taurus and Bos indicus cattle.

Students developed their understanding of correct beef cattle terminology, including terms such as calf, steer, heifer, bull, and bullock. They also completed practical activities labelling the external parts of a bull, helping to build their livestock identification skills.

As part of their studies, students also defined a range of husbandry procedures used in beef cattle production, including practices that support animal health, welfare and farm management. They identified the equipment used to carry out these procedures and discussed the importance of safe and effective livestock handling.

Students also investigated the major products obtained from beef cattle and how these products contribute to Australian agriculture and food production.

During the remainder of the term students will explore nutritional requirements of beef cattle, the different cuts of beef, importance of record keeping and WHS requirements on a beef cattle farm.

Work Education/Elective

Fridays this term at Oran Park Woolworths many of our Stage 5 students will be participating in work experience across the store.

The Store Manager was delighted with the Camden High school team and gave all a 5-star report. The students get the opportunity to work across multiple departments including bakery, produce, groceries and more.

The positive feedback includes the students are willing to work, cooperative, helpful and with good humour.

All students completed a Work Ready Program in term 1 in preparation for work experience. Their practical experience will really support their classroom learning of Works Rights and Responsibilities this term in Work Education.

Stage 6

Numeracy

After successfully completing Number and Measurement and their respective Assessment Task in Term 1, Year 11 have commenced working on Time and all its’ facets. They have been reading digital clocks and analogue clocks. We’ve practiced converting time between the two types of clocks. Moving onto using time to calculate time differences between cities and countries, reading timetables and planning trips and journeys.

SLR

After wrapping up our fitness unit last term, SLR students have eagerly hit the ground running with Games and Sports Application I. During theory lessons, they are exploring the rules and strategies of various sports that we will be playing throughout the term. On the practical side, students have already enjoyed drills, round-robin games, and a thrilling class-versus-class challenge in Ultimate Frisbee. There are plenty of exciting activities ahead, including Gaelic football, pickleball, and more.

Work Studies

Stage 6 work studies students have been diving into the world of work and recently explored the importance of workplace communication. Students worked collaboratively to create and perform role plays demonstrating effective communication skills, teamwork, and strategies for resolving workplace conflict.

The classroom was filled with creativity, laughter, and impressive acting skills as students confidently presented their scenarios to the class. It was wonderful to see students stepping outside their comfort zones and developing skills that will support them in future workplaces. Well done, Stage 6!

Extra/whole Faculty

Miracle Babies Foundation Volunteering

Year 11 students, alongside selected Year 9 and 10 students, have been participating in a meaningful volunteering project with Miracle Babies Foundation. Students have been helping to create items and resources that support families with premature and sick newborn babies.

This experience has provided students with a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community while developing teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. Students have shown kindness, compassion, and enthusiasm throughout the project, and should be incredibly proud of the positive difference they are making in the lives of others.
