The Potato Washers and The Great Garnishers
Last week the Year 6’s were busy in the kitchen preparing a delicious menu of Potato, Silverbeet and Tomato Curry with Turmeric Rice and Beetroot Riata.
Everyone pitched in scrubbing potatoes, shredding silverbeet and grating ginger and garlic for our curry. The kitchen smelt amazing as we cooked our aromatics (including some fresh NMPS grown garlic!) with all the measured spices and fresh curry leaves to start our curry base. The rice was carefully measured and added to the pot with vegetable stock and spices.
After patiently waiting for our curry and rice to cook it was finally time to lift the lids.
A vibrant yellow rice was revealed alongside a rich red curry which was then very evenly divided between our serving dishes. Then it was time to garnish, delicately picking flower petals and herbs to scatter over our dishes with fresh red chilli on the side for those who wanted some extra heat. A side of cooling beetroot raita was the perfect accompaniment to serve with our colourful meal.
