Performing Arts News

From Dan Dinnen, Patrick Connor and Sam Howard Performing Arts teachers
We have had a great start to the term in Performing Arts!
It’s been wonderful to hear students singing together as we start learning new songs, and remember our favourites from last year. So far, Rattlin’ Bog has been the most popular request from our ESC students… But Dan and Patrick keep saying not yet, because we have new songs to learn! Right now, our Grade 3-6 students are focussing on learning My Island Home by the Wurumpi Band (made famous by Christine Anu).
P-2 classes have started the year with some new floor drumming patterns, new songs and some occasional individual music performances.
As well as singing and music, we are doing lots of movement, dance and drama activities in Term 1. We are also exploring how cultural dances can be a really important way for people to express and celebrate their identity.
At Errol Street, Dan and Patrick have commenced lunchtime clubs - Xylophone Group, Ukulele Club and Choir are all up and running. We will be finding opportunities throughout the year to share performances from our groups and will keep you posted.
