It's all coming together
Reading
This week in reading we have been breaking down all ways reading is thinking. We have used our ‘Just Right Books’ to make text to text, text to self and text to world connections. We have brainstormed the traits of the main characters in our books and used that to understand the message the author is trying to send us. We have plotted the story structure of our books so we can see the journey the characters have taken and we have explored all the different types of reading responses we can write when we finish our books.
Writing
In writing this week we have been learning how to unpack seeds and how to use them to come up with a range of different writing ideas from narratives to persuasive to informative and more. We have looked at different examples of text types in the world and discussed their purpose and audience and thought about how we can apply that to our own writing. We have been practising the writers workshop, independent writing routines and conferencing with our teachers.
Maths
This week in Maths we started our decimal place value unit. We learned how to compare and order decimal numbers, we learned how to read and spell each decimal place value name. We learned how to use the decimats to play a game and we connected our learning to the real world by looking at the scoring of the Winter Olympic snowboarding qualifiers. We partitioned the scores and plotted them on a number line.
