Hello to all our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students and parents! It’s so lovely to see everyone again. I hope you all had a great first 2 weeks back to school and are feeling ready for a fun year of learning.

Auslan is going to be very fun this year! We have started the year by getting to know each other, learning names, and building confidence in the Auslan classroom. It has been wonderful meeting the students and seeing their excitement and curiosity already.

We are now in Week 4 of Term 1, and students have settled in beautifully. Over the past 4 weeks, we have been busy revising signs that students learned in the previous year and refreshing our memories through lots of hands-on practice. It has been fantastic to see students recognising familiar signs and growing in confidence as they use Auslan to communicate with their peers.

We have also been incorporating songs into our lessons, which has been a fun and engaging way to build language skills through rhythm and movement. A clear favourite has been “1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive!”. Students have loved signing along to the numbers and actions in the song, helping them strengthen both their number knowledge and sign recall in an enjoyable way. Singing and signing together is a wonderful way to support memory, coordination, and expressive communication.

This term, students will continue learning and revising the Auslan alphabet and numbers, which is an exciting step in communicating using sign language. We will be practising finger spelling, playing interactive games, using visuals, and participating in movement-based activities to support all learning styles. 

Our Prep students are beginning their Auslan journey with enthusiasm, while our Year 1 and Year 2 students are building on their existing skills and becoming great role models during activities.
