Physical Education

From Kale Vagnoni and Mark Quinn, PE teachers
With a few weeks under our belts we all warmed up across the school and firing on all cylinders.
Preps, Year 1’s and 2’s
Down at the Molesworth Campus gym we have been exploring sharing equipment and sharing space - and how this ties in with our own body bubbles, using hula hoops to conceptualise invisible space.
Movement wise it’s been all systems go, diving straight into throwing, catching, striking with racquets, kicking from the ground, jumping, landing and even some forward rolls!
Years 3-6
Up at Errol Street it’s been all about games. As we wrap up our Game Sense Unit we are exploring the myriad ways we can use minimal equipment and a bit of space to construct new and creative game rules that incorporate all sorts of physically challenging elements. By thinking about ‘zones’ students have been able to explore the concept of possession in Territory games and discover how to use it as a tool.
Bike Ed- Year's 3-6
In Week 5 ( Monday 23rd Feb) next week we will be starting our annual Bicycle Education Unit. This is an opportunity for riders of all skill levels to enhance their skills. The program is designed to work with all levels of riding experience, from ‘never pedalled’ thru to ‘daily rider’. The PE Dept has its own fleet of bikes to suit our Year 3-6 sized riders, however students are more than welcome to bring along their own helmet, bike or both - this can help maximise pedalling time during lessons. Students who do bring bikes simply need to park them in the designated student bike parking area down near the Flex building each morning before they head to class.
This weeks Healthy Hack......
Visual Emotion
The way we hold and move our bodies can help us communicate feelings, without even talking. See if you can test each other around home with your family this week and identify each other's body language feelings before sharing them through words.
