Year Two

 Celebration of Learning

This term, students dove into The Fabulous Friend Machine, exploring the story's characters and themes through rich discussions and thoughtful reflection. It was fantastic to see the curiosity and enthusiasm students brought to their conversations about the text.

Alongside this, students built their reading skills through our knowledge-rich unit on Great Inventions. Through these engaging texts, they strengthened key comprehension strategies and expanded their vocabulary in meaningful ways. We were so impressed by the connections students made between their reading and the world around them.

The students worked hard on crafting more detailed and interesting sentences, learning to include the important details of who, what, when, where, why and how. They also explored a range of conjunctions such as andorbecausebut and so - to help connect and extend their ideas.

As the term progressed, students began organising their writing more purposefully, laying the groundwork for paragraph writing. We were so proud to see them keeping their ideas on topic and writing with growing confidence and clarity.

Our Inventors

A highlight of the term was our deep dive into the lives of some incredible inventors! Students explored the stories of Thomas Edison, James Harrison, Dr Fiona Wood, John O'Sullivan and Graeme Clark, discovering how these remarkable people changed the world through their ideas and persistence.

To bring their learning to life, students then created their very own narratives imagining themselves as inventors or exploring a world shaped by an invention. The creativity and imagination on display was truly something special, and these stories were a wonderful way to celebrate everything they had learned.
