Performing Arts – Music in Term 2

Throughout Term 2, students at Holy Family have been actively engaged in developing their musical skills and knowledge during Performing Arts lessons. Students across all year levels have enjoyed learning about rhythm, pitch, melody, and instrumental performance while building confidence and teamwork through music-making.

The Prep students explored music through singing and movement. They learnt and performed songs such as You Are My Sunshine, Over the Deep Blue Sea, and The Ants Go Marching. They also enjoyed experimenting with a variety of percussion instruments, learning how different instruments create sound and how to keep a steady beat.

Grade 1 students were introduced to the Glockenspiel and Xylophone. They learnt correct playing techniques and practised reading simple musical patterns. By the end of the term, students were proudly able to perform Hot Cross Buns.

Grade 2 students had a wonderful time playing with the Boomwhackers. They developed their understanding of rhythm, pitch, and teamwork by performing a range of songs using these colourful tuned percussion instruments.

Grade 3 and 4 students focused on learning the Recorder. They worked hard to develop correct finger placement, breath control, and note reading skills while learning to play a variety of melodies.

Grade 5 students explored rhythm and percussion through Drumsticks and Bucket Drumming. They learnt a range of rhythmic patterns and performance techniques, demonstrating excellent coordination, concentration, and teamwork.

Grade 6 students were introduced to the Guitar. They learnt about the parts of the instrument, correct playing posture and picking patterns. Students showed great persistence as they developed their playing skills.

It has been fantastic to see students' enthusiasm, creativity, and growth in music this term. All students should be very proud of their efforts and achievements in Performing Arts during Term 2.
