Supporting Wellbeing at Home
Families play an important role in supporting children's social and emotional wellbeing. The everyday conversations, activities, and connections we share at home help children build confidence, resilience and positive relationships.
To support the learning taking place during our Respectful Relationships wellbeing lessons, families can try some simple activities at home:
- Talk about emotions: Encourage your child to name and discuss their feelings by asking questions such as, “What was something that made you feel happy, proud or challenged today?”
- Practise gratitude: Share something you are thankful for each day or create a family gratitude jar.
- Read and reflect together: Choose books that explore friendship, kindness, and emotions, then discuss the characters’ choices and feelings.
- Problem-solve together: Talk through everyday challenges and encourage your child to think of respectful solutions.
- Practise mindfulness: Try some deep breathing, stretching or quiet moments noticing the sights and sounds around you.
- Show kindness: Work together to complete an act of kindness for someone in your family or community.
- Spend quality time together: Playing games, going for walks, or sharing conversations helps strengthen connection and belonging.
These small moments help reinforce the skills students are developing at school, including understanding emotions, building positive relationships, showing empathy, and managing challenges.
