Year 4 News

Ready, Steady, VOTE!
Over the past few weeks, Year 4 have been diving into the world of democracy!
We unpacked important issues, discussed policies and explored what it really means to be fair and have our voices heard.
Our candidates were selected for the position of Prime Minister of Pawstralia — yes, you heard that right! We had a range of dogs with their own policies and ideas for the future. We looked closely at who their policies would impact, how they could support different communities and what they could do to make Pawstralia an even better place. Year 4 were barking mad for it! Students cast their votes and are now eagerly awaiting the results. They loved role-playing what it is like to vote in a real election and discovering how every single vote can make a difference.
Writing
We took our exploration of important issues one step further by investigating real-world issues affecting our communities, Australia and the world. Students researched topics including the impacts of AI and social media, climate change, space junk, green spaces, our education system and a whole lot more! Year 4 became passionate researchers and persuasive writers, using evidence and strong arguments to convince their audiences about what needs to change. After all, these are the issues that will shape their future!
Maths
Students engaged in a week of Location, Location, Location! Students followed maps, explored directions and coordinates. Some students created maps providing excellent directions and some students played copious games of battle ships using grids and also cartesian planes.
We also wanted to give a big shoutout to Shannon Ryan, who is an expert on all things Space and has even worked at NASA! Shannon came into Year 4 to talk to us about the impacts of space junk and the challenges it creates for our planet and beyond. Year 4 students then got to put their creative thinking caps on and come up with innovative ways to help eliminate space junk. It was such an awesome and inspiring experience!
