Our Body Belongs to Me 

The Rosella group have been exploring: “Our Body Belongs to Me.” Through stories, conversations, art and play, the children have been learning about their bodies, personal space, consent and keeping themselves safe.

The children began by celebrating all the wonderful things their bodies can do. They created a collaborative body artwork, drawing their favourite activities and things that make them happy. We also explored the idea of a “body bubble” and learned that everyone has personal space that should be respected.

Through playful experiences with Cookie puppet and our “Stop and Go” game, the children practised asking for permission, saying “yes” or “no” and understanding that “stop means stop.” We talked about how we can respect a friend's choice and find another activity if they do not want a cuddle or physical contact.

Using baby dolls, the children explored body differences. They took turns placing stickers on the dolls' private body parts and learned that these parts are private and should be respected. We also discussed what children can do if someone makes them feel uncomfortable, including saying “no,” moving away and talking to a trusted adult.

Books such as No Means No, Be You, All Bodies Are Good Bodies and Boss of Your Body helped us develop language around consent, confidence, kindness and body autonomy.

A favourite message from our inquiry was:

“I am the boss of my body!”

We are very proud of the children's thoughtful participation and growing confidence. Through this learning, they are developing important skills to help them understand, respect and care for themselves and others.

Molesworth Street Kindergarten is closed for NSEY All Staff Conference on August 21.

A reminder to our families that the kindergarten will be closed on Friday, 21 August.

The NSEY Staff Conference is held in Term 3 each year to provide teams across the NSEY services with the opportunity to share in professional learning and connect with colleagues from across the organisation.

The Kindergarten will reopen on August 24th Monday.
